1. Consider the research method used by Watson and Crick in determining the structure of the DNA molecule by model building, using information from other sources. Ask whether this might be useful in other kinds of scientific research, as in perhaps determining the structure of a virus.
2. Consider why the correct replication of DNA is of such importance that there are different means of assuring it and also why it is important that the copying process not always be exact (so there are mutations and evolution).
3. Consider how the structure of the DNA molecule
is related to its different functions of storing information,
replicating itself, and undergoing mutation. Look at the bases
in the center, the hydrogen bonding between them, and at the complementary
nature of the base pairing.
