Student Activities - Chapter 9
Organ Donations--Are You Willing?
- 1. Students should read the Health Focus, Spare
Parts, before coming to class. Select various students to
role-play, or initiate a discussion with your students regarding
whether they would be willing to donate their organs in the instance
of a fatal accident. Would they be willing to donate the organs
of a parent? A spouse? A child? Ask them to consider why or why
not in each instance. If one is available, have a medical professional
discuss the critical need for organ donors.
Should Sex Partners Help Prevent Urinary Tract Infections
in Each Other?
- 2. Assign students to read the Health Focus, Urinary
Tract Infections Require Attention. Have students consider
this ethical question: What adjustments should male sex partners
make to help prevent urinary tract infections in their female
sex partners? Should they take medicine to ensure that they are
not the source of infection or wash the genitals before having
sex? What adjustments should women make to lessen the chance of
developing urinary tract infections? Lead a discussion involving
these questions.
