Lead a detailed discussion describing the numerous sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). An excellent review of this topic is by S. Aral and K. Holmes, entitled, "Sexually Transmitted Diseases in the AIDS Era," Scientific American, February 1991, pages 52-59. Impress upon your students that their unprotected sexual behavior now can lead to sterility later on (for the women) because of the toll taken by pelvic inflammatory disease caused by several STDs. STDs can also lead to birth defects in the children of affected women. The vast majority of cases of cervical cancer are transmitted through sexual contact. Many women are never aware that they have an STD, so it goes untreated.
Update your students on this very important topic.
Choose a video that shows development and/or childbirth and labor. Describe the various stages of development and the events that occur during each.
