"Telecom Meltdown"

Synopsis: The opening case in Chapter 1 describes the characteristics of the global telecommunications industry. The deregulation and exploded demands in the telecommunication market around the world had made the industry look like the land of promise. As this article reports, however, the recent meltdown of most telecom companies in both sides of the Atlantic is turning it into a wasteland, potentially leading to the telecom-driven recession in the U.S. and Europe. Reviewing the cause of the meltdown, this article also explains the future of those the industry. Only the fittest and the best-financed could survive as a wave of bankruptcies and mergers would sweep through the industry for the next year or two.
