"A tussle over tax"
The Economist, March 4th-10th, 2000, pp.75-76.
Synopsis:
The opening case in chapter 5 describes the disputes over the trade in hormone-treated beef between the European Union (EU) and the U.S.
This article explains the recent trade war over "foreign sales corporations" (FSCS). The EU argues that FSCS act as illegal export subsidies to firms based in the U.S., whereas the U.S. argues that it helps to offset the tax advantages enjoyed by exporters in the EU. This article also explains how the disputes between the two most important members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) may affect the system of WTO.
