"Airline hawks are ready to strike"
Business Week, June 19, 2000, p. 52.
Synopsis:
The opening case in chapter 8 describes
the mergers that had occurred in the European insurance industry.
Focusing on the talks between British
Airways (BA) and Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM), this article reports
the consolidation in the European airline industry. If the talks
succeed, a BA-KLM merger would be the first major cross-border
deal in the European airline business. Deregulation and a single
market make it clear that the number of European carriers, which
are now twelve, should be reduced to probably four. Other potential
mergers in the European airline industry are also summarized.
