Welcome! From here you can jump to a number of other web sites that are of interest to students of international business. You can access four different types of web sites from this page. First, there are the web sites of major international organizations, such as the World Trade Organization and the European Union. Second, there are the web sites of newspapers and magazines that excel in their coverage of international business material, such as The Economist and The Financial Times. Third, there are the web sites of a number of international businesses companies profiled in the various cases and Management Focus features contained in the third edition International Business. Finally, there are a number of other miscellaneous links that do not fall into any of the above categories, but which are useful and well worth a visit, such as the CIA's Annual Fact Book.

INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

APEC. Web site for the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum. See Chapter 8 of my text book for details of this organization.

ASEAN. Web site for the Association of South East Asian Nations. See Chapter 8 of my text book for details of this organization.

The European Union. Web site for the European Union. Run by the European Commission, this is one of my favorite sites. See Chapter 8 of my text book for details of this organization.

International Monetary Fund. The web site for the IMF. See Chapter 10 of my text book for details of this organization.

Mercosur. Lot's of useful background information about Mercosur, the South America Free Trade Area, can be gleaned from this web site. See Chapter 8 of my text book for more details on Mercosur.

NAFTA. Background information about the North American Free Trade Agreement can be accessed from this web site. See Chapter 8 of my text book for details of NAFTA.

OECD. Web site for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the economic forum for developed nations.

World Bank. Web site for the World Bank. The sister institution of the IMF, this organization is discussed in Chapter 10 of my text book.

The World Trade Organization. Web site of the World Trade Organization, this is another of my favorite sites. The WTO is discussed in depth in Chapter 6 of my textbook.

The United Nations. Web site for the United Nations, and the source for a vast amount of information about UN programs.


NEWS SITES

Economist. The Economist is a London based weekly news magazine. Excellent coverage of international politics, economics, and business. A must read for any student of international business.

Financial Times. The Financial Times is a daily financial newspaper. A sister publication of The Economist, The Financial Times also excels in its coverage of international news.

Journal of Commerce. The Journal of Commerce is an excellent source for current news on international trade.

New York Times. The New York Times has a nice on-line site.

NewsPage. NewsPage is a web based news retrieval service. The basic service is free, and for a small fee you can get customized news stories delivered to your PC on a daily basis.

Pointcast. Pointcast is a real time web based news service. It functions as a screen saver and will update news on areas that you select throughout the day.

Wall Street Journal. The Wall Street Journal is America's premier financial news paper. The international coverage is not as good as The Financial Times, but its still worth reading on a regular basis. The WSJ has a great interactive edition that you can access from the web. Currently its free! Visit the site and sign up.

MISCELLANEOUS

Asian Financial Crisis. Go to this page to access a huge amount of information on the Asian Financial Crisis. The page has been put together by NYU professor, Nouriel Roubini.
Business Software Alliance. The business software alliance is a global organization that monitors violations of intellectual property rights in the global software industry. This is a great source for current data on software piracy.
CIA Fact Book. The CIA's annual Fact Book is a great place for getting basic background information on any of the world's nations. Well worth a visit.
CIBERWeb. CIBERWeb will link you to the international business resources of 27 universities in the United Stated that have federally funded Centers for International Business Education and Research.
Department of Commerce. The United States Department of Commerce. This is a useful site for finding out about U.S. trade policy and related issues.
Handbook of International Economic Statistics. Another CIA publication, this handbook is a good source for current economic data and maps on national, regional and global economies.
International Trade Administration. The ITA is a unit of the Department of Commerce. This is a great place for getting background information and statistics on the trade position of a wide range of United States industries.
Institute for International Economics. The Institute for International Economics is a Washington DC based think tank that issues some interesting research reports on international trade.
Amazon.com. A virtual book store with access to over one million titles, Amazon.com is a good a model as any for the future of global electronic commerce. Buy your books here!
State Department. This is the home page for the United States State Department. There is some useful material posted here from time to time. For example, the State Department regularly issues detailed reports on human rights violations in various countries. These can be accessed from this page.
