"French Consumer Confidence Hits High"

BBC News, February 6, 2001

Synopsis:

As indicated by the all-time high consumer confidence, optimism seems to prevail among French households. The optimism coupled with consumer spending may lead France to achieve a high level of economic growth this year. The strong domestic demand may help protect the French economy from a slowdown in the U.S. economy. The inflation and unemployment rates indicate that the economic situations in France are better than those in any other EU country. This news report also explains why the health of France's economy can be seen as an important indicator of European prosperity as a whole.
