"Made in the U.S.--But Owned in Europe?"

Synopsis:

 

This article discusses the current status of U.S. steel industry and its impact on the likelihood of European acquisitions of U.S. steel companies. One of the major problems U.S. steelmakers face is the overall prices that are now close to the historic 1998 lows. They are also facing a cash crunch, staggering debt and pension obligations, which makes more bankruptcies inevitable. All these situations seem to provide several European companies with an opportunity to invade U.S.
