"The worm
that never dies"
The Economist,
March 2, 2002.
Synopsis:
This article discusses how bribery, "a worm that gnaws at
the fruits of economic endeavor," can be eliminated. Despite
the introduction of new laws and policies against it, bribery
seems to be growing rather than fading away. In addition to the
legal forces, market forces should play a major role in the fight
against bribery. Companies must provide their employees with clear
advice about how to deal with bribery. Internal audit procedures
and training also help the battle against bribery. Multinational
corporations may also have to participate in the fight. All these
effort combined would be necessary to eliminate bribery that has
a negative impact on economic growth.
