"A survey of European Union enlargement"

Economist, May 19, 2001

Synopsis:
The articles in this survey cover many important issues related to the enlargement of the European Union (EU). More specifically, this survey focuses on issues including (1) current EU members' motivations to open the door of Europe's richest club to relatively poor countries, and (2) benefits the applicant countries expect by joining the EU. It looks like the EU will be expanded gradually, and more attention is given to the 'who' and 'when' aspects of the EU enlargement.
