"Playing games with prosperity "

Economist, July 26, 2001

Synopsis:
This article deals with diverse issues related to launching a new trade round in Doha in November this year, mainly focusing on why the WTO's members are far from agreement on the priority and role of a new trade round. Reviewing sensitive issues that should be covered by a new trade round, this article explains why it would be difficult for everybody to be a winner of global trade talks. This article also explains why questions still remain as to the benefits of a new round, especially from the perspectives of poor countries.
