"It just gets worse"

The Economist, August 20, 2001

Synopsis:
This article discusses the current economic slowdown that has increasingly become a global phenomenon. In addition to Japan that is almost certainly in recession, other Asian countries including Taiwan and Singapore are heading for recession or already in recession; The economic slowdown in the U.S. has already affected neighboring countries, especially Mexico that is now in the third quarter of recession; Most euro-area countries are also facing similar situations. This article also explains how the coincidence of timing in economic slowdown across the industrial world affects emerging-market economies and the future of the global economy.
