"Attacking
World Poverty"
BBC NEWS, September 14, 2000.
Synopsis:
Several countries including China
have joined the global economy and successfully reduced poverty.
According to one UN agency, however, world inequality is worse
than ever before as indicated by the widening gap between the
average income in the richest and poorest country. What matters
is the poor country's own effort to alleviate poverty. To tackle
world property more efficiently, however, greater co-ordination
is required among the organizations (the World Bank, the IMF,
and the World Trade Organization) that have very different aims
and objectives in their approach to deal with world poverty.
This news report also explains the impacts of global economy
on the organizations' effort to make some changes in political
regimes in those countries.
