"One Currency - but 15 Economies"

Business Week, December 31, 2001

Synopsis:
After the ten controversial years of debates, twelve European Union (EU) countries finally decided to use the same money, euro currency. As this article explains, the euro-zone economy that will include three more EU members may bring many benefits. Most of all, it may help achieve greater price transparency across countries and promote more cross-border trade and mergers. However, there are also many hurdles that EU countries have to overcome to be a true, single market. This article reviews those hurdles and discusses the future of the euro-zone economy.
