Synopsis:
This
article introduces the reform and restructuring programs launched
by Hyundai, Korea's largest chaebol. The pressure from
the government and creditors has led Hyundai to make several
promises that include: hand management to professionals, reduce
investments, sell unproductive units, and invite foreign investment.
However, no one is convinced because the group's founding family
has broken many promises to restructure. This article also explains
why Hyundai's right reforms are important not only for Korean
stock and bond markets but also for Korean economy.
