Synopsis:
Firms may use different strategies in their global expansion. This article introduces Wal-Mart's expansion strategies in Europe. The cornerstone of the Wal-Mart invasion into European markets is Asda, the giant British retailer, which Wal-Mart bought last July. Wal-Mart has already cut Asda prices on thousands of goods and also plans to utilize e-commerce, putting serious pressure on its rivals. This article also explains what kinds of other strategies Allan Leighton, who rose through the ranks at Asda and now is a president and chief executive of Wal-Mart Europe, may implement for Wal-Mart's further expansion in Europe.
