In addition many customers and vendors worldwide use the Internet to communicate with ABC's Employees. You have been asked to maintain a file to track the available Internet facilities at all of ABC's offices and to record Internet address information on each site. An employee is to be assigned responsibility for managing Internet and World Wide Web activities at each site however this assignment has not been made at all sites at this time. Some sites have a Web page in place while others do not. Your file is to track this set of information. A sample of relevant data follows.

2. Managing Systems Maintenance at Action Products

Modifying systems in response to user requests is a major aspect of systems maintenance for the information systems department at Action Products Company. Users can request changes to information systems by filling out a change request form and sending it to the group charged with maintenance responsibilities for the affected system.

Users have often complained of long response times to their change requests and lack of follow-up to ensure that the changes made solve the problem reported. To expedite the processing of change requests Action Products has assigned you the authority and responsibility for coordinating change requests.

You have decided to maintain a database file providing summary information about each change request. You will record the requesting user's name the date the request was made and the name of the information system to be modified. You will then make an assignment of the new request to and appropriate maintenance team and record that information as well.

Once the request has been added to your database file its progress toward completion will be recorded under the Completion status variable. A request will be listed as IP (for in-process) as soon as you assign it to a maintenance team. Once the changes have been completed you are to be notified by the maintenance team. At that point you will change the status to PA (pending approval). You then will notify the user who submitted the request to evaluate the changes and inform you that the changes are either accepted (status AC) or rejected (status RE). A user who rejects the changes must submit a new change request form to describe any further modifications required. A set of sample data is shown below.
