Biographical Sketch: Steven Nahmias

Steven Nahmias is Professor of Operations and Management Information Systems in the Leavey School of Business and Administration at Santa Clara University. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from Queens College, a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University, and M.S. and Ph. D. degrees in Operations Research from Northwestern University. He has also served on the faculties of University of Pittsburgh and Stanford University.

Dr. Nahmias has authored or co-authored more than fifty scientific articles which have appeared in a variety of national and international journals. He is also the sole author of Production and Operations Analysis published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin, currently in its fourth edition. He has served as Area Editor for Supply Chain Logistics for Operations Research and is currently a Senior Editor for the M&SOM journal. He is a member of Alpha Pi Mu, Beta Gamma Sigma, Omega Rho and Sigma Chi honoraries, and is listed in Who’s Who in Engineering, Who’s Who in California, American Men and Women of Science, and Who’s Who in Frontier Science and Technology. He received First Prize in the 39 Nicholson Student Paper Competition (1971), Second Prize in the TIMS Student Paper Competition (1972), and is the recipient of The University Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholarship from Santa Clara University (1998).

In addition to his academic activities, Dr. Nahmias has served as a consultant to a variety of firms and agencies including Litton Industries, Xerox Corporation, IBM Corporation, LEX Automotive, Department of Transportation of Santa Clara County, and others. He lives with his wife Vivian, who is CFO for Glynn Capital Management, and son Mitchell in Menlo Park. Among his several hobbies, he is a 15 handicap golfer and plays jazz trumpet with several bands including “Tuesday Nite Live”, also based in Menlo Park.
