"The book itself is beautifully produced and really makes it very easy - quite pleasureable - to get into the material of the book. I believe your production and editorial teams and everyone else involved in putting it together and marketing the book deserves the highest praise. So extremely well produced, and yet very competitively priced: here in Hull, UK, it cost me about £33. The common range of university textbooks in accounting, economics and management is between £28 and £35. However, it's not rare at all to pay about £50 for many academic books. I hope the book will be a roaring success. I also think adding the CD is an absolute "stroke of genius" for a field like business dynamics modeling. It really deserves a big applause and could be a great marketing tool. Offering the various supplementary support materials on the website shows the commitment of author and publisher. Many years ago, when I started my first career in economics, I grew up with PA Samuelson's introductory textbook on economics. It was a bestseller for at least 50 years. I just hope that Sterman's Business Dynamics will also become such a standard textbook and join the "Samuelsons" of this world. Once again, congratulations and thanks for your help." Professor T.G. Geerling of Hull University, United Kingdom

"Congratulations on your excellent book "Business Dynamics - System Thinking and Modeling for an Complex world". Even for a not-native-English-speaker, like me, it is easy to read and it makes great fun to go through diagrams and formulas. We are a small group of retired research scientists and recently we were arguing if System Dynamics are a process like benchmarking or Just-in-Time or if System Dynamics are simulation tools. Could we be right in assuming that System Dynamics are a combination of both? If this is correct than System Dynamics would be most advanced decision support tool." Othmar von Ettingshausen, Duesseldorf (Germany)

"Finally, a book that comprehensively addresses many of the important topics associated with systems thinking and modeling."   Dave Hoffman University of Alaska

"System dynamics has grown for forty years with activity doubling perhaps every four years. Even so, the profession of systems dynamics is still in its infancy. Insufficient teaching materials have delayed development of this field. Now, John Sterman has given us a major and much needed new textbook in his Business Dynamics. But the book is more than a classroom text, it is a handbook with which practitioners in the field can advance their skills. The book contains a wealth of material covering all important aspects of system dynamics."   Jay W. Forrester

"The field of system dynamics was created in 1956 under the leadership of MIT Professor Jay W. Forrester to evaluate how alternative policies affect growth, stability, fluctuation, and changing behavior in corporations, cities, and countries. Forrester founded the System Dynamics Program in the Alfred P. Sloan School of Management at MIT. John Sterman is currently Director of the System Dynamics Group at MIT.

This text is a summary of the wisdom and knowledge gathered over more than twenty years of research dedicated to the study of practical methods for systems thinking and the dynamic modeling of complex systems. It is well written, easy to understand, and worthy of serious consideration.

I believe the text is destined to become a classic. It is written in a straightforward style and does not require prerequisite knowledge of higher mathematics. Indeed, in the author's words, 'one of the strengths of the text is the way it presents system dynamics with a minimum of mathematical formalism. The goal is to develop the reader's intuition and conceptual understanding, without sacrificing the rigor of the scientific method.' This goal is achieved well.

The text opens with a succinct and well-organized description of approaches to the study of complex systems. It develops a set of principles for successful use of systems dynamics and provides well-written overviews of the Modeling Process and dynamic systems

It covers the construction of causal loop diagrams and describes their application in a variety of business and engineering examples.

"This is one of the best texts in its field for upper division undergraduate courses and graduate programs. It will be useful to many in business, engineering, and science. " Daniel A. Joseph, Rochester Institute of Technology

"Here, at last, is a textbook that will do justice to the richness of system dynamics, and at the same time lead students in and entertaining yet scholarly way to discover for themselves the challenge and satisfaction of serious modeling for learning." John Morecroft, London Business School

"I think the CD attachment is a great idea and the challenges are very challenging! The book is equally useful to students, consultants, and academics and captures the essence of all the previous SD literature that I have read so far.."  Mark Rowland, PriceWaterhouseCoopers
