Chapter 13 Problem Solutions
DPEM 3 Watershed
Below are all the files associated with using the DPEM model for watershed specific policy and for policy regarding buffers and identified special areas or polygons.
DWOOD.XLS A spreadsheet used to convert the basic DPEM model to a watershed specific model for Dogwood Creek. This example is for the Dogwood Creek watershed and is done by adding a two character watershed code to the decision variable name. Look at the decision variable row of the spreadsheet. Note how the original DPEM variable A11 becomes DWA11. Two other spreadsheets are used to insert the codes TR for Trout Creek and WW for Whitewater creek. When all three spreadsheets are combined (using the EQUATION program of SARA) to form a linear equation file that uniquely recognizes all three watersheds in its decision variables.
DP3WRCM.XLS This is the combined linear equation file for a RCM that recognizes all three watersheds.
Files DP3Wp9, p10, p15, p20 and p30 These five policy files were used to set the equivalent area cut in each watershed by period to a percent of total area in each watershed. The original policy 2A was used as the base for all 5and the ECA limits were added to this base policy. See the textbook for more discussion of how this was done.
DP3Wp20OUT This file is the solution when the policy is to limit ECA to 20 percent of the area in each watershed.
DP3Weca.XLS This spreadsheet shows the solutions to all five policies and presents a graph comparing the harvest schedules over the 12 periods for all ECA policies as compared to the unrestricted solution to policy 2A.
DPEM Buffers and Zones
Below are all the files used for policies that specify prescriptions to use in stream buffer zones or for identified habitat areas. The formulation techniques can be generalized to enable special prescriptions for any buffer (for example: a visual buffer along a road or trail) or any identified polygon (for example: a mapped historic site or forest residence area)
Dp3wB200 A policy formulation that restricts all area within 200 feet of a stream must be assigned prescription Rx9. Policy 2A is the base policy for the whole forest.
Dp3wB200H Similar to policy Dp3wB200 except that an 100 acres of Rx9 are required in addition to the buffer area for owl habitat in Trout Creek because the buffers are not considered suitable for the owl.
BUFFERS.XLS A spreadsheet summarizing the combined effects of buffer and owl zone policies on forest outcomes and conditions.
Buffer Solutions.XLS. Complete solutions for the buffer width analysis
Owl habitat Solutions.XLS Complete solutions to the Owl habitat analysis
MOIP
Listed below are files used for the MOIP example analysis of chapter 13
MOIP.XLS This spreadsheet shows the RCM model for the example MOIP problem in the text (same as Table 13-12).
MOIPRCM.RCM This is the linear equation RCM file for the MOIP problem.
Linked Pkg pol A policy file to hard link three alternatives in the solution
MIN ECA1 pol A policy file to minimize the total ECA over the joint ownership
Preferred Alt pol A policy to directly hardwire (choose) the preferred alternative of each owenership.
