Student Study Guide: Preface

This study guide will help you understand and learn the information and concepts found in World Regional Geography: The New Global Order by Michael Bradshaw. Your textbook explains the characteristics of the nine important regions that make up the new geography of the world. There is lot to learn, but with the help of your instructor, textbook, and this study guide, you will be successful.

Each chapter of this study guide contains the following sections:

  1. Chapter Outline -- Summarizes the main ideas of each section.
  2. Learning Objectives -- Emphasizes the fundamental ideas of each chapter.
  3. Key Terms -- Reviews each of the important concepts listed in the recap boxes.
  4. Fill in the Blank Questions -- Offers practice test questions to evaluate learning.
  5. True-False Questions -- Offers practice test questions to evaluate learning.
  6. Multiple Choice Questions -- Offers practice test questions to evaluate learning.
  7. Key Places -- Reviews many of the important places listed in the recap boxes.
  8. Exploring the Web -- Offers questions from regional geography that can be answered using websites from each chapter.

A recommended plan of study that you should follow to be successful is:

  1. Read the Chapter Outline and Learning Objectives in the study guide so that you will know what is significant.
  2. Look at the lists of Key Terms and Key Places in each chapter. Make use of the glossaries and maps in the textbook.
  3. Read the chapter in the textbook carefully, making notes or highlighting the important ideas and concepts.
  4. Test your understanding and knowledge by completing the remaining sections in your study guide. Working through all the questions is another way of studying the chapter. Look up the answers at the back of the study guide. Make sure you understand the questions that you got wrong and the ones you got right.
  5. If you have questions or are unsure about some of the material, reread that part of the textbook and ask your instructor.
  6. Review the chapter(s) in the textbook and the study guide before your quiz or test.
  7. Use the websites to enhance your learning.

If you make the personal effort to follow the above plan of study, you will learn much about world regional geography and do well.

Good luck! Enjoy learning about geography and the many exciting and interesting places and cultures that make up the contemporary world.

I want to thank Margaret A. Kosa and Liana J. Escott for their valuable assistance in preparing this study guide.
