Arthur Getis

Arthur Getis received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. in geography from the University Washington. He is the co-author of several geography textbooks, as well as three books dealing with map pattern analysis. He has also published widely in the areas of urban geography, spatial analysis, and geographical information systems. He is co-editor of the Journal of Geographical Systems, serves on the editorial boards of Geographical Analysis and the Papers in Regional Science, and is on the boards of directors of the Regional Science Association and the University Consortium for Geographical Information Science. Professor Getis headed the geography department at the University of Illinois for many years, currently is president of the Western Regional Science Association, and holds the Stephen and Mary Birch Foundation Endowed Chair of Geographical Studies at San Diego State University.
