Iowa State
University hosts the National Soil Data Access Facility of the USDA which allows
access to information from various national soils databases. This site also
features photographic images of different soil types for comparison.
The Soil

System Science Center also provides access to various soils
databases.

University also hosts the Soil Quality Institute of the USDA which provides
information about soil quality issues in the United States. Information is
provided about a low-tech method of testing soil quality by simply digging a
hole with a shovel.
University of Idaho Soil Science Division web page contains photos, descriptions, and surveys of the 12 major soil orders.
Canadian Soil Information System provides links to detailed soil surveys and land inventories.
