Web-Based Questions

  1. Web-Based Question: Hospital charges-visit a hospital near you. Visit the American Hospital Directory at www.ahd.com/ and search for two hospitals near you. Compare their average charges and average length of stay. Which type of treatment averages the most and which the least? Are the amounts for each hospital similar? Does this imply competition? Without insurance, could you afford an average heart operation at a hospital near you?

  2. Web-Based Question: AARP and health care-what is its opinion? Visit the AARP home page, www.aarp.org/, and select Legislative Issues. Describe two such issues relating to health care or long-term care and summarize AARP’s positions. Do you sense any particular bias in AARP’s views? Who would pay for greater government benefits for older Americans?
