Web-Based Questions
- Web-Based Question: Bookselling
on the Internet-how do sellers differentiate identical books? Upstart
company Amazon introduced bookselling on the Web through its site at www.amazon.com.
Amazon’s success enticed a long-time bookseller, Barnes & Noble, to go
online with a major website, www.barnesandnoble.com. Search both sites
for Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning (paperback). Find the
price delivered to your address. Is one cheaper? Identify the nonprice competition
that might lead you to order from one company rather than the other.
- Web-Based Question: Market shares-top
10 lists Advertising Age, at adage.com, compiles statistics
on the market shares of many familiar products. Go to "Ad Age Dataplace"
to find 100 leading national advertisers. Then scroll down and select the
top 10 lists for five separate products. In general, do the very top sellers
in the top 10 lists advertise more or less than the sellers toward the bottoms
of the lists? Are there exceptions? Do you think the top 10 lists would get
turned upside down if the pattern of advertising were turned upside down?
Why or why not?
