Deciding on an automotive school depends on a person’s interest and budget. Automotive schools offer both degree and diploma programs. The normal duration for the certificate and diploma programs is about 1 year whereas an associate degree from automotive schools may require 2 years of coursework and hands on experience. One of the most highly demanded certificate program offered by automotive schools is the National Service for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certificate program. ASE certificate is a prerequisite for most of the jobs for auto mechanics.

People qualifying from automotive schools have very bright career prospects as technicians like diesel mechanics, auto mechanics, etc. are always in short supply. Even entry level auto mechanics may earn a salary of $35,000. Further training in specific fields such as automatic transmissions, hybrid cars and high performance cars enhances this basic salary.
