A. Bruce Carlson is Professor and Curriculum Chair of the Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering Department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY. He also has been a Member of Technical Staff at the Bell Telephone Laboratories, and a consultant for the New York State Department of Health and IBM, Kingston. He received the A.B. in Physics from Dartmouth College and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Professor Carlson is the author or co-author of four textbooks in eight editions. He is a fellow of ASEE, a senior member of IEEE, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kapp Nu. His honors and awards include the Western Electric Fund Award (1973), the Hertz Foundation Award (1987), the IEEE McGraw-Hill/Millman Award (1994), and the Ben Dasher Award (1998). Professor Carlson is also listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers, having been selected by a student of merit as a teacher who "made a difference" in the life of that student.
