Janet C. Rutledge is Associate Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with affiliate faculty appointments in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at UMBC and the Division of Otolaryngology at the University of Maryland Medical School. She was formerly a Program Director at the National Science Foundation in the Division of Graduate Education, the Division of Engineering Education and Centers, and the Division of Undergraduate Education. Prior to that she was on the faculty of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Northwestern University, with an adjunct appointment in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department. She received the B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the M.S. and Ph.D. from Georgia Tech, also in Electrical Engineering.

Professor Rutledge holds a patent and is the author of numerous journal and conference publications. She is a senior member of the IEEE and has served on a number of IEEE committees including: Educational Activities Board, Committee on Engineering Accreditation Activities, Education Society Administrative Committee, Electronic Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Education, Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Administrative Committee, and the IEEE Press Book Series on Emerging Technologies in Biomedical Engineering Editorial Board. She is also an ABET Electrical Engineering Program Evaluator. The Northwestern University Associated Student Government recognized Professor Rutledge's teaching by listing her on the Faculty Honor Roll. Professor Rutledge is a member of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Board of Trustees.
