Tutorial on Resistors in Series and Parallel - Part 3

The concept of "shorting out" components is important. If a resistor has both ends connected to the same point, the resistor is shorted out and contributes nothing to the circuit. Both ends of the 2 W resistor are connected to point B. The total resistance is just the 1 W resistance.
