
About the Author Gerd Keiser is the founder and president of PhotonicsComm Solutions, Inc, a firm specializing in consulting and education for the optical communications industry. He has 25 years of experience at Honeywell, GTE, and General Dynamics in research, development, and application of optical networking technology and digital switch development for telecommunication applications. As a side activity, he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University and Tufts University, and was an Industrial Advisor to the Wentworth Institute of Technology. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and is the author of the books Optical Fiber Communications and Local Area Networks (both published by McGraw-Hill). He received his B.A. and M.S. degrees in mathematics and physics from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and a Ph.D. degree in solid-state physics from Northeastern University in Boston.
