Dear Colleague,

You probably recently received a brochure from WCB/McGraw-Hill describing their BEST Series of textbooks. As Consulting Editor for this series, I thought I would take a few moments to describe the purpose and content of this exciting new series.

The WCB/McGraw-Hill BEST Series is a collection of new textbooks intended to be used for most introductory-level engineering courses. These books vary in length from brief modules to full-length textbooks, as determined by the length of class time typically devoted to the corresponding topics. The selection of books in this series has been influenced by the experiences of WCB/McGraw-Hill’s marketing team, my own experiences in administering the freshman engineering courses at the University of Pittsburgh, and my extensive interactions with many of you through the Freshman Programs Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. Most books are written by experienced authors who are acknowledged experts in their fields.

A great deal of time and effort has gone into the creation of this new series, in order to bring a fresh selection of high quality, low-cost textbooks to the various diverse topics that characterize introductory engineering courses. I encourage you to examine these books carefully in light of your own interests and needs. Desk copies are available upon request.

Sincerely,
Byron S. Gottfried, PhD
Consulting Editor
