It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed author William A. Sabin. Mr. Sabin's contributions to McGraw-Hill as an editor, publisher, and author were enormous. For nearly forty years his book The Gregg Reference Manual has been recognized as the best style manual for professionals and students who want to master the on-the-job standards of the business world.

That Mr. Sabin had an unwavering personal commitment to his craft is the foundation of his legacy. He was a highly consulted authority on the written word, and he truly enjoyed interacting with his community through the "Ask the Author" section of his Web site. Mr. Sabin delighted in finding practical and straightforward solutions to seemingly impossible writing conundrums. It was not uncommon for Mr. Sabin to call up those who sent him queries about grammar or style to engage them in lively conversation. His conversations with his readers sparked ideas that he incorporated into revised editions of The Gregg Reference Manual.

Those who had the honor of working with Mr. Sabin on The Gregg Reference Manual will miss his extraordinary sense of humor and gift for storytelling as well as his attention to detail. He was so devoted to refining the manual to keep it current and to satisfy the demands of business and other professional writers. We at McGraw-Hill are grateful to have had the privilege of working with such a legendary talent.
