Notes:
This slide provides a brief description of the derivation of most field based assessments of aerobic fitness. Field tests are necessary because it is not easy or practical to have everyone complete lab based fitness assessments.
By using the procedures described here, scientists have developed equations that predict fitness levels based on the results of the field test. These tests work quite well for most applications.
Because the fitness determinations are only estimates and because individuals may perform differently on different tests, results may vary across tests.
