  • Language Information at 123world
This page offers a list of world languages. Clicking on one brings up a page of the webmaster’s choice (in a frame) on that language. It’s a bit deceiving because the language information is on another site, but if you looking for basic information, this site might be of use.

  • Linguasphere
Although this is the home page of a $175 register of the world’s languages, the site has some information that might be useful. Most useful are the links under “Resource Databases”, which include dozens of addresses for language and linguistics departments or research centers. Furthermore, the links are categorized by language family. Check your library to see if they have a print copy of the Linguasphere Register.

  • The Dictionary of American Regional English (DARE)
This site is the home page of The Dictionary of American Regional English, which catalogs words and sayings that are only used in some parts of the country. The site is relatively basic (and partly an advertisement), but some interesting tidbits can be found. For example, click on “Arthur the Rat” and download the mp3 file to hear a story told by nine people with different regional accents.
