  • Natureserve - This is an interesting biodiversity database. The home page map makes it appear to be limited to the eastern U.S. but it actually covers much of the U.S. One can search for a particular species, or part of a name, and retrieve all sorts of data. Seems to be a good starting point for research projects and student papers.
  • Ocean Planet: Biodiversity - A similar exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum on diversity, with pictures, descriptions, and links. http://seawifs.gsfc.nasa.gov/OCEAN_PLANET/HTML/oceanography_diversity_base_images.html
  • What is Biodiversity - A short article by E.O. Wilson. “If we want a sustainable world, we're going to have to protect the biosphere, the rest of life.
  • World Conservation Monitoring Center - This is the 1994 IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals, which lists animals from around the world whose numbers are going down. To use this list, it's best to know the scientific name of the animal you're researching. But you can also look up endangered animals by country.
