Instructions:
When graphing a system of linear equations in two variables, the solution, if one exists, is the point where the two lines intersect. When graphing a system of linear inequalities, the solution isn't a point, but a "region." This region contains all the points that satisfy the system. For each system of inequalities, you will enter the appropriate numerical coefficients into the interactive application. If the direction of the inequality sign must change, you must make that change by clicking on the sign in the application. Also, if the sign must change to create a new inequality, you must make that change by clicking on the sign. Before working with the application, first try to sketch the graph of each problem yourself and then use the application to check your work.
The interactive application only supports inequalities written in the form ax + by > c and ax + by < c. As a result, you may need to rewrite the inequalities prior to inputting numerical values into the boxes. Also, if you encounter a subtraction sign, you will need to rewrite the inequality using negative signs because the addition symbol cannot be modified in the interactive application. For example, to input the inequality x - y > 6, you must enter the inequality as 1 x + -1 y > 6.
To use the application, click on the "play" button and enter you data. You may have to hit the "enter" key after entering new values in order to refresh the application.
