Dividing fractions or mixed numbers is a skill that can be useful when designing garments. For example, if you know the amount of material you have and the amount required to make a shirt, you can find the total number of shirts that can be made. To do this, you would divide the total amount of your material by the amount of material needed for one shirt.

With this interactive application you can quickly find out how many shirts can be made out of different measurements of fabric. First click on the "play" button and then enter the size of the material in yards. Since you are entering a mixed number, enter the whole number into the left-most box and the fraction's numerator and denominator in the top and bottom right boxes. Hit the "run" button after entering the last number. Hit the "reset" button to enter new values.
