What internet browser plug-ins will I need?
Some Online Learning Centers use browser plug-ins. To view these sites, you may need one or more of the plug-ins below.
- Macromedia Shockwave 7 Player. To install this player, please go to the Macromedia Shockwave Download site and follow the directions on-screen for proper installation.
- Apple QuickTime 4.0 Player. To install this player, please go to the Apple QuickTime Download site and follow the directions on-screen for proper installation.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader. To install this reader, please to the the Adobe Acrobat Download site and follow the directions on-screen for proper installation.
- RealPlayer G2 (or later). To install this reader, please to the the RealNetworks.com Download site and follow the directions on-screen for proper installation.
What are the system requirements?
It is recommended that Online Learning Center users have at least a 56K modem connection. This will be appropriate for all content, excluding video clips. QuickTime video content should be accessed by users on a local area network or the equivalent of a T1 line connection. The general system requirements are as follows:
Windows Users:
Windows 95, 98, NT 4.X
32 MB RAM
640x480 color monitor, set display to high color (16 bit)
Macintosh Users:
System 7.5 or newer
32 MB RAM
640x480 color monitor, set monitor to thousands of colors
NOTE: Set the Preferred Memory Size for your browser to at least 15 MB
Why is the type is too large or too small?
The McGraw-Hill Online Learning Centers have set the default type size to medium. You can adjust the type size settings for your individual browser display as follows:
Windows Internet Explorer 4.X users:
1. Select View.
2. Select Fonts.
3. Choose the font size settings appropriate to your viewing situation.
Windows Netscape Communicator 4.X users:
1. Select Edit.
2. Select Preferences.
3. Choose Appearance, then Fonts. Set the Variable and Fixed Width Font settings appropriate to your viewing situation.
Macintosh Internet Explorer 4.X users:
1. Select "Edit"
2. Select "Preferences"
3. Select "Browser Display"
4. Choose the font size settings appropriate to your viewing situation.
Macintosh Netscape Communicator 4.X users:
1. Select "Edit"
2. Select "Preferences"
3. Select "Fonts"
4. Choose Appearance, then Fonts. Set the Variable and Fixed Width Font settings appropriate to your viewing situation.
