Laurence D. Hoffmann is a former professor at Claremont McKenna College, where he taught mathematics from 1970 to 1985. He is a three-time recipient of the College's Huntoon Award for Excellence in Teaching, and award for "best teacher" voted by the students. He received his B.A. from Brown University and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He is the coauthor of Applied Finite Mathematics, Second Edition and Finite Mathematics with Calculus, Second Edition (both McGraw-Hill). Since 1985, Hoffmann has been a financial consultant. He is currently Senior Vice-President, Investments with Salomon Smith Barney in Claremont, California.
