Description of Software

The Mathematics Investigator software is designed for 14 Computer Investigations. When using this program there is a pull-down menu called Investigations at the top of the screen for obtaining the following programs.

Triangular NumbersFactorizations
Consecutive NumbersStandard Deviations
Differences of SquaresDice Roll Simulations
Integer DifferencesCoin Toss Simulations
Number ChainsPalindromic Sums
Repeating Decimals Palindromic Differences
Frequency of PrimesPalindromic Decimals

Once a program is selected, by clicking on the title, a description of the program will appear with two or more boxes for entering numbers, as shown in the figure below. This is the screen for the program Palindromic Sums. This program begins with a number, reverses the digits, and adds the two numbers. This process is continued until a palindromic number is obtained. For example, the number 647 will be tested below by clicking on OK to determine the number of sums leading to a palindromic number. Or, by entering a number from 1 to 50 in the second box, as many as 50 consecutive numbers (647, 648, . . .) will be tested to determine how many steps are required for each number to obtain a palindromic number.

A program can be repeated in two ways: Pull down the Investigator menu, or pull down the File menu an click on Run Selection Again.
