Student's Solutions Manual
ISBN 0072427035

Joe Ediger - Portland State University

This manual contains detailed solutions to the odd-numbered exercises and problems and the chapter tests in Mathematics For Elementary Teachers: A Conceptual Approach , fifth edition.

Here are some suggestions for making the best use of the solutions manual to enhance your learning.
  1. Always work on the problem first before checking with the solutions manual. Usually some struggle is necessary for real learning to take place. If you see someone else's solution first, then some opportunity for learning may be lost.
  2. The solutions given in this manual are usually not the only correct ways to work the problem. If you worked a problem in a different way and got the correct answer, then your solution is probably just as good or better. For some of the problems more than one method of solution has been shown.
  3. When reading a solution be sure that each part make sense to you. It may be helpful to rephrase things in your own words.
  4. Additional questions or comments have been added at the end of some of the solutions. [These are written in italics and placed in brackets like this.] Sometimes these present opportunities for you to challenge yourself and extend your learning.
  5. Look for the fun in learning mathematics. If you find yourself really interested in a particular problem, see whether other related questions or patterns occur to you. Let your interests guide your learning.
