Gary Smith is the Fletcher Jones Professor at Pomona College in Claremont, California. He received his Bachelor' degree from Harvey Mudd College, and his Master's and Doctorate from Yale University. In addition to Pomona College, he has taught at Yale University, University of Houston, and Rice University. Among his honors and awards, he has received a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, and Social Science Research Council Grant, a Stanford Research Institute Grant, and the Pomona College Wig Teaching Award. Gary Smith is very active in his role as an educator, and continues to look for new and innovative ways to improve his teaching and the quality of education that students receive in college. At Pomona College, he served on a committee to revise the general education requirements and offerings for their students, which now include a statistical reasoning requirement.

Gary Smith has authored several textbooks including such diverse topics as Statistics, Finance, Macroeconomics, and Banking.
