Chapter 10: The Human Lineage Evolves
Overview
This chapter traces the course of human evolution from the very end of the Pliocene through the Lower and into the Middle Pleistocene. It describes the climatic changes that occurred during this time period and the methods used to reconstruct them. It follows the trail and the accomplishments of Homo erectus, the first hominid to venture out of Africa on a journey that rapidly expanded its range to include Asia and Europe. The anatomical and cultural changes associated with this hominid, including a larger brain and increased stature along with improved stone tool technology and the use of fire, are examined in the context of the sites from which evidence for these developments has been obtained.Practice Exam (45 Questions)
