Worksheet 3-3 E-Books

Several companies now sell e-books and, naturally, they do so online. Visit the sites of as many as you can find (start with NuvoMedia and SoftBook Press) and study the approach of each. Then, choose the one you’d most likely use (the Winner) and the one you’d least likely use (the Loser) if you were to take up the e-book. Answer the following questions for both.

Winner:
Loser:
  1. How difficult was it to find or access its site?

  2. What was your impression of its titles list? For example, was it excellent, adequate, too small, too narrow for your needs? Explain.

  3. How sophisticated was its hardware (the e-book itself)? What could it do that impressed you? What didn’t it do that you would have liked?

  4. What about the cost, both for hardware and for titles? About right or too much for you? Explain your answer.

  5. So, will you become a user of e-books? If you already are, explain why you began and offer commentary about how satisfied you are with the e-book. If you see yourself eventually using e-books, explain why. If you think you’d never want to use an e-book, offer your rationale.
