
Richard West
Richard West is an associate Professor of communication and currently Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Southern Maine. Rich received his B.A. in Speech Education in 1983 and his M.S. in Communication in 1984 from Illinois State University. He did his doctoral work at Ohio University, earning his Ph.D. in Interpersonal Communication in 1991. In 1997, Rich was mentioned in Whos Who in Media and Communications. Among the awards and accolades he has received are the Outstanding Teacher/Scholar at the University of Southern Maine in 1998, the Outstanding Scholar in the Social Sciences in 1998, and the Past Presidents Award from the Eastern Communication Association in 1999.
Introducing Communication Theory is Richs third textbook. He co-authored Gender and Communication (William C. Brown) with Lynn H. Turner and Judy Pearson in 1995 and Perspectives on Family Communication (Mayfield) with Lynn H. Turner in 1998.
Lynn H. Turner
Lynn H. Turner is currently associate professor in the communication studies department at Marquette University. She received her B.A. from the University of Illinois - Chicago in 1967, her M.A. from the University of Iowa in 1970, and her Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1989. In 1997, the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender awarded her the Outstanding Book Award (with Patricia Sullivan) for From the Margins to the Center: Contemporary Womens Political Communication. In 1998, she received the Outstanding Scholarship Award from the College of Communication at Marquette University.
Lynn has five books to her credit. In addition to the two she co-authored with Richard West and the one with Patricia Sullivan, she co-edited Differences that Make a Difference (with Sterk) and Constructing and Reconstructing Gender (with Perry and Sterk).
