Background and History
OM Center is sponsored by Irwin/McGraw-Hill to provide a focal point for finding operations management resources that are valuable for students and faculty. It was conceived, designed, constructed, and is maintained by Byron Finch, Professor of Management and Director of Faculty Development for Information Technologies for the Richard T. Farmer School of Business Administration, Miami University (Ohio).  Dr. Finch is the Managing Editor of the site. He maintained OM Info-Access at Miami University from 1996 until it was replaced by this site in April of 1998. This site operated word-of-mouth through the spring and summer of 1998 and was then publicized. In July, 1998 OMC linked up with Business Week Online to access their archives and provide direct links to archived articles that are normally accessible only through their "pay per view" system. While most OM Center content is generic to the operations management discipline, some is designed specifically for Irwin/McGraw-Hill titles. This discipline-oriented content and focus will continue, however content geared toward Irwin/McGraw-Hill titles will increase as the link between the internet and textbooks is strengthened. During the summer of 1999 the site received a major facelift, incorporating frames to enhance internal navigation, and major content enhancements. We're always working on improvements.

OM Center is designed to be a fast-loading informational site, with minimal glitter and glitz that would slow it down.   We want it to be THE source for faculty looking for pedagogical support or references and for students seeking current OM information. Our links are limited only to those providing useful information.   If a commercial site offers educational value, we'll link to it, but do not endorse products or services of any firm, except for Irwin/McGraw-Hill.  To maintain the high quality of this site, we welcome comments and suggestions through our feedback area.   We're always looking for good resources, but we're not trying to have the most links, merely the best set to get the job done.

OMC was created using Microsoft Frontpage.  The graphics and Javascript were created using MacroMedia's Fireworks 2.
