Properties & Changes

Roses and Violets
There are two types of properties that we must be concerned with in chemistry, physical properties and chemical properties. A physical property refers to a characteristic such as color. A physical property can be measured and observed without changing the composition or identity of a substance. For example, roses are red and violets are blue.
Other physical properties include temperature, texture, composition, state (solid, liquid, gas), melting point and appearance. These properties do not require a change in composition to observe.
