Amines are derivatives of ammonia (NH₃), in which one or more hydrogens have been replaced by alkylgroups. Amine structures are called primary (a),secondary (b), and tertiary (c) amines based on the number of alkyl groups attached.

Like ammonia, amines are basic and can behave like proton acceptors or as Lewis bases.
