Representations

Various models are used to represent 3-D objects in 2-D. Expanded and condensed formulas were devised as text-based shorthand notations. The ball-and-stick model (lower left) attempts a 3-D approach using spheres as atoms and sticks as bonds. The space-filling model (lower right) is a more honest 3-D representation of where the electron probability actually extends.
